An Arabic translation known as the Van Dyck Bible is the most commonly used Arabic Bible translation in the Arab world. A simple logo was needed as a visual identifier for the many formats that carry this Bible text. It had to be simple because it would be embossed on leather and appear in extremely small sizes. This specific cross shape may be unfamiliar to western viewers. Known as the Coptic or Ethiopian cross, it is the cross shape used by most of Egypt’s Christians. Each arm separates into three points, representing the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The twelve points together represent the apostles who spread the Gospel throughout the world. It was later incorporated into another symbol for the 150th anniversary of this translation.
